This debut novel set in the California wine country outside San Francisco is a family saga of three generations of women whose lives are forever turned upside down by one event in the life of the grandmother. Her subsequent choices filter down into the lives of her daughter and granddaughter affecting their relationships and family connections for many years to come.

Can Lucy ever return to the family vineyard in La Rosaleda and rebuild the relationship with her grandfather that was denied her after her mother’s death because of her grandmother’s need to keep secrets from the family? What are these secrets that are so awful Kitty can’t bring herself to even tell her husband? How will Lucy live her own life in spite of her grandmother’s need to shelter her from the truth? And will she ever gain the understanding that can only come through knowing what her grandmother refuses to share with anyone?

Ms. Forkner writes a compelling story of love and learning from others’ mistakes. Her descriptions are rich with imagery to tickle the imagination and emotions. I hope she will allow readers to revisit these wonderful characters she has introduced in future books. (ISBN#9781400073580, 336pp, $9.99)
