God seems to enjoy turning our plans inside out and upside down when we least expect or want things to change. Hannah, who is a planner like me seems to have a whole lot of these carpet being jerked out from under her experiences in the course of this book and finding herself attracted to the new sheriff when she’s supposed to be the “stable” doctor’s girl doesn’t help matters any. The secrets harbored by the sheriff’s silent temporary ward that stowed away in his wagon at the previous town shake things up a bit as well when they find him and Sandy Shores.

Who is Hannah’s true love, will Gabe’s ward ever reveal what has his tongue tied, can Gabe move forward and start a new life and perhaps a family in Sandy Shores or will his past issues with finding the “right one” remain a roadblock to happiness? These questions and many others of faith, growth and trust are raised and at least partly answered in Hannah’s story as her path crosses that of Gabe and Jesse. Don’t miss the debut in MacLaren’s newest series, Daughters of Jacob Kane. Like me you may find yourself a new town and characters to fall in love with amongst Sharlene’s vivid historical narrative set in this turn-of-the-century Michigan town where adventure is waiting just around the next corner – at least for the independent heroine of this book.
