Let Them Eat Fruitcake by Melody Carlson – My Review

David C. Cook (September 1, 2008)
In this book we return to 86 Bloomberg Place and four young women you would have thought could never share living space peaceably much less become friends along the way. Let Them Eat Fruitcake finds our girls celebrating their first Christmas as roommates and for some the first one away from their families. The girls decide that they ought to take the opportunity and run with it so they plan a Christmas Eve party and deck out the house for the event. When Megan decides to serve meals downtown at the mission on Christmas day and invites the girls to join her the four of them and three of their boyfriends join in this service project. Of course with four such different women sharing living space there are bound to be a few kinks in the process even when they seem to have all agreed on the way things will be. Be sure to read I Heart Bloomberg first for the introductions and back story. Carlson’s characters will touch your heart and imagination as well as serving to reflect some of your own attitudes and behaviors that might rub some people the wrong way. Reading these books and getting to know Megan, Lelani, Anna and Kendall is not only an escape to a world far from my current life it also provides a window that reflects areas where I can continue to grow and develop myself.
