Poor PJ Sugar, from the first meeting she is plagued by a nose for nuisances. Trouble like her nickname says seems to surround her at every turn especially when she retiurns to her hometown for her sister’s wedding and to care for her nephew during the honeymoon.
PJ is also hounded by the local law enforcement over every little misstep and just her luck the officer on her case happens to be her highschool sweetheart who also precipitated her hasty departure for the farthest possible point from home when her mother cut a deal with his father after she was blamed for a fire that destroyed a portion of the local country club which the aforesaid father manages.
Warren’s characters are so realistic that barring my reticence to take even minimal risks most of the time I could almost have landed in PJ’s shoes as I was reading. Along with PJ we meet the foreign inlaws, an overprotective perfectionist mother that PJ thinks she only succeeded at disappointing in every attempt she made as well as the small town cast of characters that populate mid america in this particular locale. Be sure and grab up this first installment featuring PJ and her exploits for a reading experience you will not soon forget and if Susan May Warren is new to you this book will join your favorites list after you experience her writing and storytelling abilities.
